More random rants

Stuff in the news again, makes me sad, angry and wonder exactly how far we have come in the last few decades.

Pictures like this.

If you don’t see the problem, then I’m not sure that anything I can say will help you. One of the many reasons I’m glad RTH and I won’t be responsible for bringing a child into a world with such a screwed up attitude to women.

I’ve blogged before about my mixed feelings on the whole battle of the sexes thing. For a while I was a little more optimistic. Probably 50% of the people sitting the PPL exam with me were female. We had a female intern at dispatch for a while, maybe things were getting better.

But I still don’t see any female flight instructors around and I don’t think any of the other women in my ground school class made it this far. It kinda depresses me a little to be honest.

What depresses me more is that I don’t know what to do about it. I sit here and complain but as my good friend A asked me, what am I doing to fix the situation?

It’s a good question. The answer, sadly, is nothing really.

Even worse, I’ve taken to painting my fingernails. I’m a bit of a sell out really.

  1. Girls flying girls is an annual (I think) event at Oshawa airport, sponsored by the local chapter of the Ninety-Nines and some other groups. The Ninety-Nines is interesting -- they were founded by 99 of the first female aviators (including Amelia Earhart!), and work to encourage and support women pilots (and women who want to become pilots).

  2. I am frustrated even seeing those clothes. Had it only been about pink vs. blue I could not have cared less.

A women is more than wifes/girlfriends and could handle pretty much most things men can. Sure, women often (yes often) may lack the more explosive strength men often (yes often) have, but there is more to life than that. Often (yes often) women have better endurance (both mental and physical), are better at handling people and can often be better decision makers.

Why this skewed image of women being just a bit more than someones wife or girlfriend, and what really frustrates me: getting less pay for equal (or harder) work?!?

    1. Frustrated enough to miss the point entirely...

You writing this blog is not what I would call "nothing really". ;-)

      Keep it going. :-)

    2. I don't know, this blog is really just a reflective tool for me. I don't think it is particularly inspirational from a "women can do anything" point of view.

However I'm glad you are enjoying it!
